To apply for a study permit in Canada, you need an acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). A DLI is a school approved by a provincial or territorial government to host international students. All primary and secondary schools in Canada are DLIs. However, they are not included in the DLI list for study permit purposes.
If you plan to attend a post-secondary institution, ensure it is on the DLI list. Not all universities, colleges, and other educational institutions in Canada are DLIs, so verifying this is crucial.
Important Note: If the school you’re studying at loses its DLI status while you’re studying, you can continue your studies until your study permit expires.
Your eligibility for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) depends on the DLI you actually attended. Even if you earn credentials from another PGWP-eligible DLI through a curriculum licensing agreement, your eligibility is based on the DLI you physically attended.
It’s essential to know if the DLI you plan to attend offers programs that make you eligible for the PGWP.
It is necessary to keep in mind that not all DLIs and programs of study qualify for the PGWP. Besides graduating from a PGWP-eligible DLI, you need to meet all other criteria to obtain a PGWP.
