The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is designed to support economic growth by nominating individuals for permanent residency in Alberta.
To qualify, applicants must either possess skills that address local job shortages or plan to start or buy a business in Alberta. They must also demonstrate their ability to support their families. This program is a partnership between the governments of Alberta and Canada.
Nominees, along with their spouse or common-law partner and dependent children, are eligible to apply for permanent residency.
Alberta issues nomination certificates to enhance Express Entry profiles, while Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) oversees the permanent residency applications and makes the final decisions.
AAIP caters to skilled workers and entrepreneurs, offering various application streams based on individual profiles.
The Alberta Opportunity Stream targets foreign nationals already working in Alberta with a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer. Candidates must meet eligibility criteria, including work experience, language proficiency, education, and a valid job offer.
The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows the province to nominate candidates with active profiles in the federal Express Entry system. Alberta considers profiles based on their potential to support regional economic development and strong ties to the province. A provincial nomination from this stream adds 600 points to a candidate’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, significantly boosting their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence.
The Accelerated Tech Pathway is for Express Entry candidates with job offers from Alberta tech companies or in eligible tech roles. Candidates must meet the Alberta Express Entry Stream criteria and work in one of the 38 in-demand tech occupations or hold a job offer from an eligible tech industry employer. This pathway offers expedited processing for qualified applicants.
The Alberta Farm Stream targets foreign nationals with extensive farm ownership and operational experience who have the financial resources to start a new farming operation in Alberta. Candidates must submit a detailed proposal outlining their farming plan and consult with the province.
The Graduate Entrepreneur Stream provides a pathway to permanent residence for international graduates from Alberta post-secondary institutions who wish to start and run a business in the province. This stream uses a points-based Expression of Interest (EOI) system to rank candidates, inviting those with the highest scores to submit a detailed Business Application. Successful applicants receive a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
The Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream offers a pathway to permanent residence for recent graduates with foreign post-secondary credentials who plan to start and operate a business in Alberta. Candidates meeting the minimum requirements can register a profile using the AAIP’s online portal and submit a Business Application. Successful candidates receive a nomination from the province, enabling them to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
